An emotional, psychic, aesthetic gesture of hand called Mudras is commonly practiced in various spiritual and cultural practices, especially Hinduism, Buddhism, and Yoga. The "Mudra" word from Sanskrit symbolizes "seal", "mask" or "gesture". Mudras are specific positions of a hand and fingers. Each finger correlates with Panchabhuta air, water, fire, earth, and space. Mudras play a significant role in yoga, the well-being of the mind and body of a person is being influenced and helps in awakening the pranas, chakras, and kundalini to balance the subtle body by uniting a higher state of consciousness.
Mudras modify the energy flow and change the equilibrium of Panchabhuta elements. Each finger represents one of the elements, which are balanced when they make contact with the thumb.
Air (Vayu) - Index Finger
Fire (Agni) - Thumb Finger
Water (Jal) - Little Finger
Earth (Prithvi) - Ring Finger
Space (Akash) - Middle Finger

Let's explore three main powerful mudras that embody the mind. By overcoming the imbalance in the physical body with the practice of yoga poses and pranayama yoga poses, the practice of mudras brings balance to the mental state. This is because several of our nerves end in our fingers, and applying pressure to them modulates various sections of our brain and activates various energy channels and chakras in the body.
1. Dhyana Mudra
Referred to as "Concentration Mudra". Dhyana mudra brings balance to the mental state and improves focus and concentration. Buddha used Dhyana mudra during his enlightenment. This mudra engages the intellect and calms the mind. The practice of dhyana mudra helps students build self-awareness, seeking for answers, control anger, better memory, keeps negative thoughts away. It has a deep impact on controlling stress levels, anxiety, and depression.
How to do: Rest the right-hand palm over the left-hand palm facing the sky, and bring the tip of the thumb together forming a triangle. Since dhyana mudra is supposed to induce tranquility, it is perfect for silent meditation.

2. Uttara Bodhi Mudra
Known as the "Awakening" or "Supreme Enlightenment" mudra. The body's prana, or life force energy, is stimulated by this mudra. Using this mudra regularly can improve mental clarity, ease mental clutter, and clear the mind. enhances concentration and focus. helps one get a deeper insight into themselves and aids in self-discovery. It's thought to work wonders for boosting self-esteem and discovering one's inner self. It dispels fear and fosters awareness and spiritual development. By practicing this mudra, one's ability to solve problems and make decisions is substantially enhanced.
How to do it: Keep the thumbs and index fingers extended while the hands interlock in front of the navel. The tips of the thumb and index fingers touch, pointing in opposite directions. Especially before starting an activity that demands a lot of concentration, this mudra helps to keep the mind refreshed.

3. Hakini mudra
How to do it: Sit in a comfortable position with your spine straight. Bring your hands together at chest level, with the fingertips of both hands touching each other lightly. Keep the palms slightly apart, allowing space between them. Focus your attention on your breath, inhaling deeply through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth. Hakini Mudra is a simple yet powerful tool for enhancing mental and spiritual health.
